A diesel generator creates an AC electrical current by spinning what’s known as an alternator. Diesel generator’s are often used in schools and factories and also in domestic properties. Surprisingly they do well as a main source of power and they come with four main ratings which are - Limited Time Power (LTP), Emergency Standby (ESP), Prime Rated Power (PRP) and Continuous (COP).

A transfer switch is an extra bit of safety for all standby generators.

A transfer switch is used for those used for standby use only. This will stop the generator from connecting to the mains power supply when it shouldn’t. It’s a form of control that stops the overloading of power which can cause a fire. When there is no mains power supply the standby diesel generator will go into what’s known as ‘island mode.’ When more generators and more power is required, more than one unit will be used at the same time, and this is referred to as ‘synchronising.’
