Dealing With Humidity in Industrial Environments
If you work in an industrial environment, then humidity is par for the course. There’s always a risk for moisture build-up and this can have an unpleasant effect, not just on you but on important equipment such as the machinery you’re using, and also on the interior structure of the building if you’re working indoors on a new build.
Moisture build-up is bad news for your equipment and your team.
Naturally, this isn’t going to be something that’s welcome in your work environment, any industrial space you work in is prone to moisture build-up, and it’s something you’ll want to deal with as soon as possible. It can damage equipment permanently and it’s not a good environment for your team to work in either.
Hire an industrial dehumidifier
We have a solution for dealing with moisture and humidity in industrial spaces - and that’s hiring one of our industrial dehumidifiers. However, we also have some hints and tips to deal with it too which might help. Moisture can come in from anywhere, such as gaps, cracks and openings where warm air can get in, it’s often worse at night affecting floors, machinery and even ceilings.
At night it can be a complete nightmare for your machinery!
It’s when the air cools that the problems start, because as the air cools it causes an accumulation of moisture. An industrial humidifier can help provide airflow throughout your work area both day and night, so moisture is kept to a minimum.
Different strokes for different folks - or in this case different dehumidifiers for different methods!
There are different types of humidifier and you’ll need to consider certain factors before hiring one. Think about things such as the relative humidity and the cubic footage of your building, also consider what is the ideal temperature for your workers and what’s allowed by law.
There are two types of dehumidifiers which are both excellent at eliminating humidity and these are desiccant and compressor dehumidifiers.
Compressor dehumidifiers
Compressors will work by using cooling coils to pull hot air into it where it will be collected within a refrigerated area. Desiccant dehumidifiers will use a gel and a desiccant wheel to capture the moisture where eventually it will be dumped into a water tank, with this method it works at a lower temperature, and there’s no accumulation of frost because it’s not using refrigeration techniques. This is because it relies on adsorption rather than condenser coils.
What else can you do?
We suggest maintaining a clean environment in which to work, difficult we know, considering the kind of areas you work in, but there are things you can do. Always inspect structures on a regular basis for any damage. Inspect windows and pipes where water can come in and lookout for signs of mildew and rot.
Always keep equipment locked away when not in use to protect them from moisture, and keep an inventory of everything you have and check it regularly.
